Hospital Incident Command System (HICS)
The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) provides guidance for hospital/healthcare settings to improve their emergency planning and response capabilities and is consistent with the 14 National Incident Management System (NIMS) elements. HICS is applicable to all kinds of emergency responses making it an “all hazards” hospital resource. The HICS guidebook, planning and training tools were developed by a national workgroup which included members from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; American Hospital Association (AHA); and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JACHO).
